As President Obama gets ready to pardon a turkey at the White House for Thanksgiving, The Washington Post points out he is way behind other presidents in granting pardons and commutations to the incarcerated.
Barack Obama is set to do some turkey pardoning tomorrow, but he hasn’t done much, you know, human pardoning. He has, thus far, issued 40 pardons or sentence commutations. By comparison, Harry Truman had issued 1,537 by this point, and FDR had issued 1,431. Even George W. Bush had issued 99. Obama’s been historically slow here.
If Obama wants to really reverse course, he could just pardon the 11 million undocumented immigrants in this country. But even as immigration reform languishes in Congress, there’s no sign Obama’s willing to do that.
The Keystone XL pipeline. Coal. Fracking. We hear a lot about how dangerous different types of energy can be.
In the third episode of my Pivotdoc series TPL DISRUPT, I went in search of the cost of energy - from Japan, to California’s San Joaquin Valley, to smack in the middle of Los Angeles - and found that all of it comes with a price.
